Hair Growth Cycle.

The number of treatments required for successful IPL Laser Permanent Hair Reduction, will vary upon the individual; the size and area to be treated and personal health profile, such as medication or hormonal issues. However on average, a minimum of 6-8 treatments will be required for effective reduction.

As with all IPL Laser treatments, a programme of treatments is required due to natural hair growth cycles.

There are three main stages of hair growth. A growing phase, transitional phase and a resting phase. These are known as Anagen, Catagen and Telogen.

The Anagen stage describes the growing phase in the hair growth cycle; it is during this stage that a follicle reforms and the matrix divides to create a new hair - the oldest cells are pushed upwards as newer cells develop below them.

At any one time, the amount of hair in Anagen stage is approximately 15%. This is why it is vital, for successful results, to commit to a programme of treatments.

The transitional stage (catagen) usually lasts between 1-2 weeks. During this stage the hair separates from the base of the hair follicle - begins to detach from the blood supply - as the dermal papilla begins to break down. In the Telogen stage (resting stage), the follicle has detached from the dermal papilla and the hair moves up the follicle and sheds naturally.
